Remote Desktop Port
What is the Remote Desktop port number?
The Port that Remote Desktop uses depends on what protocol of Remote Desktop you are using. Here is a table of the different protocols and their respective ports.

Windows Remote Desktop server is only available on:
- Windows XP: all except Home Edition
- Windows Home Server
- Windows Vista: Ultimate, Enterprise and Business editions.
- Windows Server 2003 / 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2
- Windows 7: Professional and above
Change the Windows Remote Desktop Port
In order to change the Windows Remote Desktop port you must do the following
1. Click Start -> Run (if you are using Windows Vista or Windows 7 then click in the search field on the Start menu)
2.Type Regedit and hit Enter.
3. Locate and click the registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\TerminalServer\WinStations\RDP-Tcp\
4. Double Click on PortNumber, then select the Decimal radio button.
5. Enter the port number you want to use and then click OK.
6. Restart your computer.
Note: From this point on to connect to the machine with the new Remote Desktop Port, in the Remote Desktop Client enter the hostname as hostname:new-port-number.
